COOKEVILLE — Want to read the New Testament in its original written language?

If so, a class designed for that very purpose is being offered beginning this fall at Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville.

The course, New Testament Greek, begins Sept. 8, and classes will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. throughout the fall, winter and spring quarters. Upon completion of the course, students will have earned 12 college credits.

Greek, anyone?
Tennessee Bible College dean Kerry Duke will be teaching a course in New Testament Greek beginning Sept. 8. Classes will be Monday through Wednesday, 9-10:15 a.m., throughout the fall, winter and spring quarters. The college is making a special appeal to area homeschool students, who need two years of a foreign language to satisfy high school graduation requirements.

TBC's dean, Kerry Duke, who will be teaching the class, said, "This course is New Testament Greek, not modern Greek. It's called koine Greek, which means common. It's the original language the New Testament was written in."

TBC is also encouraging area homeschoolers to take advantage, as the course satisfies first-year foreign language requirements for high school graduation. A second year of Greek is also being planned at TBC for the fall of 2009.

"This is just a good opportunity for homeschooling parents because their children need two years of a foreign language for high school," Duke said. "And this course counts for college credit too."

The fee for the first year is $120 per quarter, totaling $360, plus the cost of textbooks. Class space is limited, so prospective students are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible.

TBC courses are open to students who have completed their sophomore year of high school, whether in a public or a private high school.
