TBC 2009 Leadership Day

COOKEVILLE — It was a day of discussion at Tennessee Bible College, with school officials and a chapel full of other interested individuals coming together Feb. 28 for the annual session held on the TBC campus in Cookeville.
Vice-president Glenn Ramsey looks on as Dean Kerry Duke takes a turn answering a question during the panel discussion on Leadership Day.
This year's event, which focused on prayer, providence, the Holy Spirit and Christian fellowship, featured a discussion panel composed of TBC's Kerry Duke and Glenn B. Ramsey, along with Mac Deaver of Denton, Texas. TBC President Malcolm Hill served as moderator.
"Brethren Glenn Ramsey, Kerry Duke and Mac Deaver were at their very best in leading our minds in the study," Hill said. "It seems that Leadership Day gets better and better every year, and, once again, it surpassed my expectations. Our study was in depth and covered some superb Christian topics that have to do with the lives of all."
With a different topic being addressed during each hour-long session, panel members responded to questions from the audience in an atmosphere of open discussion.
Duke, TBC's dean, said, "The enthusiasm and participation from the audience was fantastic."
He described the discussions as "very thorough and very practical," particularly those on the Holy Spirit.
"The subject of the Holy Spirit has been very controversial and very misunderstood in churches of Christ," he said. "One extreme has been that God is not in any way involved in the world, which is not a biblical view. The other extreme is that everything that happens is a miracle. So we tried to show that the hand of God is involved in the world — not in a miraculous way, but in a supernatural way that we call providence, or God working behind the scenes. Judging from the audience's response, I would say our discussions were helpful."
Leadership Day is held at TBC each year on the last Saturday in February. Located at 1616 McCulley Road in Cookeville, the college offers a bachelor's degree in religious education, master's and doctorate degrees in theology, a two-year preaching diploma, and free Bible correspondence courses.
