COOKEVILLE — One of Tennessee Bible College's newest graduates has left behind a colorful memento for faculty and students as she heads back home to the other side of the globe.

Midea Liao, a student from Wuhan, China, who recently earned a bachelor's degree in religious education from TBC, has donated a painting she recently completed which is now being displayed at her alma mater. She presented her artwork to the college during commencement exercises on June 12.

Fishing for souls
This oil painting, titled "Jesus is Fishing," was donated to Tennessee Bible College by its painter, recent graduate Midea Liao of Wuhan, China. She presented her original painting for display at the college during commencement exercises on June 12. Liao graduated cum laude from TBC with a bachelor's degree in religious education.

The framed oil painting, which Liao has titled "Jesus is Fishing," depicts a colorful scene from the Bible in which Jesus is standing on a boat in the Sea of Galilee and preaching to a multitude along the shoreline.

"This painting that Midea has given to Tennessee Bible College is greatly appreciated, and this is only one of her many talents," said Malcolm Hill, president of TBC.

Liao came to TBC in January 2007, along with Helen Wang, also of Wuhan. Now that Liao has earned her bachelor's degree, she plans to return to her homeland and teach English and math in a private school. And, as a member of the church of Christ, she plans to spread her faith and Bible knowledge to others.

"Tennessee Bible College has been blessed all along the way to have students such as Midea Liao," Hill said. "Her work will be spread, no doubt, during her lifetime throughout the world. And it's a wonderful joy to know that we can be a part of that in teaching and training students like her."
