COOKEVILLE—Up to par on the book of Timothy? How's your knowledge of the life of Christ?

Perhaps a refresher course would be helpful.

Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville is offering a variety of courses this fall for that very purpose—to stimulate and refuel anyone seeking extra motivation in Bible study.

"We encourage individuals to take courses to refresh their minds on scripture and also learn how to present and teach the Bible," said TBC President Malcolm Hill.

Registration is Thursday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Classes begin Sept. 10 and conclude Nov. 21.

While the college offers a bachelor's degree in religious education, master's and doctorate degrees in theology and a two-year preaching diploma, students may opt for taking a single course in a particular subject area.

Hill said the classes are especially beneficial to preachers, but anyone can enroll.

"It's like feeling exhausted and then receiving a refreshing drink," he said. "It builds you back up. We encourage the young and old alike to check with us."

TBC junior Mark Day of Algood said the courses have a dual benefit, aiding him as both a preacher and student.

Mark Day of Algood is pursuing a bachelor's degree in religious education at Tennessee Bible College. Registration for the fall quarter is Sept. 6. For more information, call 931.526.2616 or visit www.tn-biblecollege.edu.

"When I preach a sermon on something I've been studying in class, that obviously helps me because the material is stirred up in my mind," he said. "On the other hand, since I have preached a sermon on it, I can do better on the test. So it helps me both ways."

The 21-year-old Indianapolis native said just being around the TBC faculty also helps him as a new preacher.

"I think your preaching gets better if you can bounce ideas off other people and ask them questions," said Day, who recently earned his two-year preaching diploma and is now pursuing a bachelor's degree in religious education. "I know there have been things I would never have thought of if I hadn't been in class."

The following courses are being offered during the fall quarter at TBC:

Undergraduate Courses

Graduate Courses

Hill said, "All these courses can be utilized by individuals who want to refresh their memory and work and grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ."

The course on Timothy will be helpful to young preachers, he said.

"One of the best ways to understand the work of a minister is to go to the Bible and study those books that were given to ministers, and Timothy is one of those books," he said. "Paul writes to the young preacher Timothy and tells him what his work is and what he is to do as a preacher of the gospel, and so this course is a tremendous course for preachers in general to get the right spirit, the right attitude and to know their work."

Many Tennessee Bible College credits are transferable to other colleges and universities, including Tennessee Tech University. Students interested in enrolling at TBC to fulfill elective course requirements in their major at another school should check with their academic advisors.

TBC also offers a Distance Learning program for those wishing to earn a college degree from home at their own pace.
