COOKEVILLE—"The Unity of God's People" will be the theme as Bible students and church congregations from throughout the state and various parts of the country gather for this year's Spiritual Renewal Week lectureship at Tennessee Bible College.

The 27th annual event is slated for May 2-6 at the TBC campus in Cookeville with 14 speakers set to take the podium to discuss various topics and issues related to the church.

"Spiritual Renewal Week is held each year at Tennessee Bible College to help our city and our area to be better in morals, in life, in neighborly conduct, in being good citizens, and in being the kind of people that we need in the world to make the world better," said TBC President Malcolm Hill, who founded the college in 1975.

Hill said he chose this year's lectureship theme, "The Unity of God's People," because of the timeliness of the subject.

"We're living in a divided world in just about everything, and that has found its way into the field of religion," he said. "What we need to do is to go back to the unity of the Bible. And when you unite on the Bible, you're truly united. The Bible won't split you. It puts you together."

Lectureship Schedule

"Spiritual Renewal Week will pass by very rapidly because of the many, many wonderful lessons that will be taught," Hill said.

And the lessons are for the young and old alike.

"It will benefit young people because they need a guiding light in life, and they cannot get that out of just mere education in general," Hill said. "Our young people, as well as older people, need the right kind of education, and that is an education built on the one who made us. And He who made us knows what it takes to make us happy."

In addition to the lectures, Spiritual Renewal Week also includes two TBC fund-raising events.

The college's 10th annual TBC Golf Scramble is planned for May 3 at 10 a.m. at the Cookeville Country Club. The tournament is a four-man scramble with a donation of $300 per team or $75 per individual golfer. Participants should register with the college by April 27 by calling 526-2616.

The Friends of TBC Dinner will be held May 5 at 6:15 p.m. in the Tennessee Tech Pride Room of the Roaden University Center on the campus of TTU. Tickets are $125 per person and can be obtained by calling Tennessee Bible College.

Funds obtained through both events go toward the training of Bible preachers and Christian workers who are students at TBC.

Also part of Spiritual Renewal Week is the President's Chicken Supper, which will be held at Northeast Church of Christ on Sunday at 5:45 p.m., just prior to the final lecture of the week. The free meal is provided by TBC President Malcolm Hill, who invites everyone to attend the supper and lectureship.

"I hope people will take advantage of Spiritual Renewal Week for themselves to take a step upward and make for a better quality of life," Hill said. "We're materialistically minded, and that does not bring happiness. We need to get into the spiritual things that have to do with the quality of life, the enjoyment of life, and the peace and happiness of life."
