COOKEVILLE — Scholarships, school supplies, tuition... whatever the students need.
That's what Ray and Geneva Tenpenny of McMinnville say they want their recent donation of $10,000 to Tennessee Bible College to be used for.
"We want to assist people in learning more about the Bible," said Ray Tenpenny, who has been a student at TBC since 1999. He earned his bachelor's degree in 2002 and continues to audit courses on the college campus in Cookeville.
The college, founded in 1975, trains gospel preachers and Christian workers in Bible doctrine, apologetics and evangelism. Students may work toward a bachelor's degree in religious education, master's and doctorate degrees in theology or a two-year preaching diploma.
"We are very happy to receive a contribution to Tennessee Bible College from Ray and Geneva Tenpenny, and we are going to use the Tenpenny Scholarship Fund to help worthy students get a Christian education," said TBC President Malcolm Hill.
In addition to his degree from Tennessee Bible College, Tenpenny holds bachelor's and master's degrees in biology from Tennessee Technological University. He has taught biology and science at various schools, including Motlow Community College in McMinnville, Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, and high schools in Birmingham, Ala., and Atlanta, Ga. He has also worked for the Centers For Disease Control in Atlanta.
Why does he continue taking TBC courses?
"I always want to learn more about the Bible so I can teach others," said Tenpenny, who attends Bethany Church of Christ in McMinnville and sometimes fills in as preacher.
His wife, Geneva, who occasionally joins him in class at TBC, added, "He thinks Tennessee Bible College is a good school that preaches the truth. May God bless the work there."
