COOKEVILLE—John Ward of Livingston was recently chosen as the recipient of a full scholarship to attend Tennessee Bible College.
Ward is a freshman pursuing a bachelor's degree in religious education. Prior to receiving the scholarship, he had been a part-time student at TBC.
Funding for the scholarship is by Iconium Church of Christ in Woodbury. The brethren of that congregation had decided to sponsor a "worthy student" wishing to further his education in biblical studies at Tennessee Bible College.
Kerry Duke, TBC's dean of students, recommended Ward for the honor.
"I noticed from the very first time he came to church that he listens very intently, so I knew he'd be a good student," said Duke, who also preaches at West End Church of Christ in Livingston, where Ward is a member. "He has progressed even faster than what I had expected."
Ward, son of Jack and Joyce Ward of Livingston, is a 2005 graduate of Livingston Academy. He chose to attend TBC because "I just wanted to learn more about the Bible and felt that I could do that better here."
His future plans?
"Eventually, I'd like to be a preacher or just learn how I can better help in any way in the church," he said.
Tennessee Bible College, which was established in 1975, is located at 1616 McCulley Road in Cookeville.
