Creation vs. evolution in new TBC biology course

A new course at Tennessee Bible College presents biology from a biblical perspective, with special emphasis on creationism vs. evolution. Registration is Sept. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon. Classes will be Sept. 8-Nov. 19.

Five grads honored in TBC commencement June 13

It was an evening of good cheer and celebration as family and friends of the Tennessee Bible College class of 2008 gathered for commencement exercises on June 13. The new graduates include Michael Hogan of Pine Bluff, Ark. (master of theology); Kenneth Mears of McMinnville (bachelor's degree in religious education); Christopher Thomas of Cookeville (two-year diploma); and Midea Liao and Helen Wang, both of Wuhan, China (two-year diploma).

TBC scholarship available

Tennessee Bible College's annual Moral Excellence Scholarship is up for grabs, and applications are being accepted for studies to begin in the 2008 fall quarter.

Overton museum marks preacher B. C. Goodpasture's place in history

The Overton County Heritage Museum is featuring a new exhibit on the late B.C. Goodpasture (1912-1977), an influential preacher in the church of Christ who also served as editor of the Gospel Advocate for 37 years and had a school named in his honor, Goodpasture Christian School in Madison. Goodpasture was a native of the Flat Creek community of Overton County.

TBC appoints Hill as new missions director

David Hill recently had a new serving of responsibilities added to his work plate at Tennessee Bible College — that of the school's director of missions. And he's wasting no time getting down to business, with evangelism campaigns in New York and New Hampshire planned for August 2008.

TBC lectureship examines 'God's Plan'

The theme was "God's Plan," and 14 speakers from the Upper Cumberland area and beyond stepped up to the pulpit, addressing a number of issues during Tennessee Bible College's 28th annual Spiritual Renewal Week lectureship April 30-May 4.

Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville, Tenn., has released its president's and dean's lists for the 2008 winter quarter.

TBC golf scramble May 1

Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville, Tenn., is seeking players for its 11th annual golf scramble Thursday, May 1, at 10 a.m. at the Cookeville Golf Club. The tournament is a fundraiser for the college, and participants should register by April 24.

Joshua Knight of Portland, Tenn., has been accepted by Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville to begin studies for the spring quarter.

TBC lectureship to focus on 'God's Plan'

Blooming dogwoods evoke more than visions of springtime for staff members at Tennessee Bible College. The white floral display also signals that Spiritual Renewal Week is just around the corner. TBC's 28th annual lectureship program is April 30 - May 4, and 15 speakers from the Upper Cumberland area and elsewhere in the United States are schedule to discuss various topics related to this year's theme, "God's Plan."

Secret Sundays

Far from the busy city streets of China, two young women have come to the peaceful countryside of Cookeville, Tenn., to major in religious education at Tennessee Bible College. Back home, their small congregation of the church of Christ meets in secret because of Communist government restrictions on religion. In Cookeville, however, they experience freedom to worship openly.

TBC gearing up for eastern seaboard mission

Next stop: Watertown, N.Y. That's the plan come June 2008, when Tennessee Bible College representatives, along with Cookeville-area church congregations, board a bus for the Empire State. The trip kicks off a long-term mission to evangelize the eastern seaboard, which encompasses states east of the Mississippi River — home to more than 180 million people.

TBC receives $10,000 for new Tenpenny Scholarship Fund

Scholarships, school supplies, tuition . . .whatever the students need. That's what Ray and Geneva Tenpenny of McMinnville, Tenn., say they want their recent donation of $10,000 to Tennessee Bible College to be used for. The college, founded in 1975, trains gospel preachers and Christian workers in Bible doctrine, apologetics and evangelism. Students may work toward a bachelor's degree in religious education, master's and doctorate degrees in theology or a two-year preaching diploma.

TBC goes the distance for African grads

Far, far from the rolling, green hills of Tennessee, a trio of African Bible scholars was recently honored in a special graduation ceremony with a Cookeville connection. As graduates of Tennessee Bible College through its distance learning program, Webby Kenabanyama, Godfrey Pitika and Joseph Andson Tembo had earned bachelor's degrees in religious education—but were unable to attend the official commencement exercise on June 15 in Cookeville. Instead, TBC went the distance—right to their own hometown of Livingstone, Zambia.

Starry Africa: Cookeville teen returns from eye-opening African mission trip

The stars shone brightly that night in the vast African sky. Even though 18-year-old Mallory Hill had seen ample twinkling gems back home in far away Cookeville, Tenn., the stars just never had the same impact as the infinite heavenly glitter above the brush arbor gospel meeting in the remote bush of Siamafumba, Zambia.

Bible Camp: Games, Wagon Rides, and Christian Education

Truth Bible Camp 2007 featured Bible classes, devotionals, sermon preparation classes and more to encourage Christian growth and Bible knowledge. Campers also participated in a variety of games and activities, including basketball, water balloon volleyball—even an old-fashioned mule-drawn wagon ride.

Mallory's Mission

Mallory Hill of Cookeville, Tenn., is collecting reading glasses for her upcoming mission trip to Zambia, Africa. The 18-year-old Cookeville High School graduate will be going along with her father, David Hill, and Ronald D. Gilbert, both of Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville. The 'Earl' of persistence

A model of persistence — that's how Tennessee Bible College Kerry Duke describes one of the school's newest graduates, 62-year-old Earl Alverson of Sparta, Tenn., who received his preaching diploma June 15 on the TBC campus in Cookeville, Tenn. As he graced the commencement stage, he also marked a first for the college — he's the only student to have started from scratch and earned a diploma through Distance Learning, having come into the program with zero credit hours under his belt.

Gearing up for Africa

Ronald D. Gilbert, director of missions at Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville, Tenn., is gearing up for his annual pilgrimage to Zambia, Africa. Gilbert has been working all year in preparation for this summer's trip, sending over more Bibles, Tonga song books, religious tracts and preacher school text books than ever before. He's also been collecting funds to help complete construction on a new building for the Siamafumba School of Biblical Studies in the bush of Zambia, Africa.

Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville, Tenn., is offering a course in contemporary philosophy for rising high school juniors and seniors July 16-27. Students completing the requirements earn three credits toward their college degree — credits which may be transferred to another college or university.

Tennessee Bible College of Cookeville has named five new members to its board of trustees. They include David Hill of Cookeville, Tenn., Roy McConnell of Goodlettsville, Tenn., Fred Jones of Greenbrier, Tenn., Mike Ellis of Columbia, Ky., and Larry Tim Ross of Tompkinsvile, Ky.

TBC collects $17,000 in contribution drive

An annual contribution drive for Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville has resulted in $17,000 in donations from area churches, businesses and individuals committed to the school's evangelism effort. One of the major contributors was the Northeast Church of Christ. TBC will use its contribution funds to train preachers and Christian workers. The college offers a bachelor's degree in religious education, master's and doctorate degrees in theology and a two-year preacher's diploma.

Tennessee Bible College releases president's list

Tennessee Bible College students Mark Day of Algood, Tenn., and Tony Li of Wuhan, China, have been named to the president's list for the fall 2006 quarter. Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville was established in 1975 and is authorized by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to confer the bachelor's degree in religious education, the master's and doctorate degree in theology and a two- year preacher's diploma.

Ward recipient of TBC scholarship

John Ward of Livingston, Tenn., was recently chosen as the recipient of a full scholarship to attend Tennessee Bible College of Cookeville. Funding for the scholarship is by Iconium Church of Christ in Woodbury, Tenn

Todd Gasaway of Byrdstown, Tenn., and Richard Copeland of Cookeville, Tenn., were recently accepted by Tennessee Bible College to begin course work for the 2006 fall quarter. John Ward of Livingston, Tenn., previously a part-time student, has now assumed full-time status at the college.

'Mission' accomplished: TBC missions director back from Africa

Tennessee Bible College director of missions Ronald D. Gilbert visited Zambia, Africa, for three weeks of strengthening and edifying the church of Christ congregations there. The visit included a primitive three-day Brush Arbor meeting in the African bush and work with the Zambia School of Biblical Studies in Livingstone.

Camping at TBC

Tennessee Bible College's eighth annual Truth Bible Camp draws young Bible enthusiasts on July 16, 2006, for a four-day stay on the college campus in Cookeville, Tenn., where the group enjoyed a variety of activites, including sermon perparation classes, Bible studies, devotionals, Christian service training and recreation.

Local church leaders participate in TBC lectureship

Several Cookeville church leaders were among those speaking during Tennessee Bible College's annual Spiritual Renewal Week lectureship held May 4- 7, 2006, on the college's campus in Cookeville. Malcolm Hill, David Hill, Glenn B. Ramsey, Kerry Duke and Ron Gilbert each spoke on topics relating to this year's theme, "The Christian Church and the Church of Christ Reunion of 2006." The theme was chosen because of a current effort by the Christian Church to reunite with the church of Christ on the 100th anniversary of their split. Also speaking during this year's lectureship were Ancil Jenkins of Jamestown; James McGill of Nashville; Brant Stubblefield of Lindsey, Okla.; Chad Ramsey of Tupelo, Miss.; Mac Deaver of Denton, Texas; John Houser of Livingston; and Jim Whitmire and John Maner, both of Forest Park, Ga.

TBC is 'going the distance' for students

Tennessee Bible College's distance learning program provides opportunity for students to take Bible courses and earn a degree at home... wherever home may be. Most of Tennessee Bible College's students never even set foot on the green grass surrounding the pristine white school building that's nestled in a quiet little corner in northeast Cookeville, Tenn.

Tennessee Bible College scholarship awarded to Miller

Kenneth Michael Miller, a senior at Clay County High School, is the 2006 recipient of a full scholarship to Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville. Michael will be the second member of his family to attend TBC. His father, Ken Miller, is a 1993 graduate of TBC, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in Bible. Miller is a member of Rock Springs Church of Christ.

TBC announces newest long-distance alumni

Tennessee Bible College of Cookeville has announced its newest graduate, Amos Simuliye of Livingstone, Zambia, Africa. Simuliye, who was enrolled in TBC's distance learning program, received a bachelor's degree in religious education during a commencement ceremony on Aug. 14 at the Zambia School of Biblical Studies. Simuliye serves as an elder at Highland Church of Christ in Livingstone. He is the third to graduate from TBC through distance learning. The first was Peter Masiya, also of Livingstone, and the second was Michael Hogan of Mooresville, N.C.
