As Christians, children of God, we are a specially called people. We have been called by the Gospel. II Thessalonians 2:14 says, “Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” We have been called to be different from the world, a peculiar people, zealous of good works (Titus 2:14). The very name of “church” means “the called out.” We have been called out of sin (Matthew 9:13), the snare of the Devil (II Timothy 2:26), and spiritual death (John 5:24). We have been called into salvation (Acts 2:47) and fellowship with God (I John 1:7). It is important then that we do all that we can to make our calling and election sure for this is what God spoke through Peter in II Peter 1:10-11, which says, “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” As Christians, one of our responsibilities is to spread the Gospel to other in an attempt to convert them (Matthew 28:18-20). Our love for others should motivate us to want to save as many as we can from the wages of sin, which is death, separation from God for all eternity (I Timothy 4:16, Romans 6:23, Matthew 25:46). The only way that anyone will be saved is by obedience to the Gospel (Romans 1:16). How do we go about saving others then?
Speak the Truth. The Word of God is Truth (John 17:17). It is the Power of God unto salvation. Acts 20:32 says, “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.” All who are pleasing in the Sight of God are those who obey Him. Christ was obedient as we should be because we are to follow in His Footsteps (Hebrews 5:8-9, I Peter 2:21). Obedience to the Truth is necessary to obtain eternal life (I Peter 1:22).
Speak the Whole Truth. Remember that if we are to save others, we must speak the whole Truth. We must declare the whole counsel of God as we are commanded to do for Paul did this, and we are commanded to follow his good example as he followed Christ (Acts 20:27, I Corinthians 11:1). Simply telling someone that they are saved by faith only is not truthful. We are saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8-9). Now to partake of that grace we must have faith (Hebrews 11:6) and we must do the works that God commands us to do (Philippians 2:12). Faith without works is dead (James 2:26).
Speak Nothing, But the Truth. We should never change the message of the Gospel. We should never add to it, nor take from it (Deuteronomy 12:32, Proverbs 30:5-6, Revelation 22:18-19). We should rightly divide the Word of God (II Timothy 2:15).
My friends, it is our duty to help save souls. We should love others enough to be about the Lord’s business every day (Luke 2:49). If we fail to warn the wicked to turn to God, we shall be held responsible for failing to obey God (Ezekiel 3:17-19). Let us do as Peter did by telling others, “Save yourselves from this untoward generation” (Acts 2:40). Let us help as many as we can to have the best life here (John 10:10) and the best life in eternity (Matthew 25:46).
