Part 3
Unfortunate for its adherents, there have been several false prophets who have attempted with their lies to establish a date for the coming of Christ to establish an earthly throne. To name some there is William Miller, Darby, C.T. Russell, Ruthford, Scofield, Walvoord, Hal Lindsey, and Whisenant. These date setters all failed to prophesy the rapture and their followers were dismayed. Friend, you have not missed the Rapture, as it is called.
When Jesus Christ returns, and He is certainly coming, there will be a final judgment. Of absolute confidence we can trust Jesus when he said, “Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go, ye know the way” (John 14:1-4 ASV). There is no doubting God’s faithful angels. In Acts 1:6-11 two of them spoke to Jesus’ disciples as they watched the Savior rise into the clouds to be with the Father. They said, “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.” So then, there are two immutable truths: (1) Jesus tells us he is going to come back; and as will be proven, (2) Nobody knows when he is returning.
All we need to do to prove nobody knows when Jesus will return is but to quote the Christ himself. He said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no one, not even the angels of heaven, neither the Son, but the Father only.” (Matthew 24:35-36). Did you catch that? Not even the Son himself knows when judgment will occur. If the Jewish Christians could not predict the coming, how dear friend how can we be so presumptuous as to assume when the Lord will come in judgment?
Here are some facts concerning what will happen when the Messiah returns. (1) The dead will be raised – both the righteous and the wicked (John 5:26-29); (2) The living shall be instantly changed (1 Corinthians 15:51-53); (3) Those believers who have already passed to the Lord’s side will return with him when he comes (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14). Dispensational premillennialists must reckon 2 Peter 3:10 with their thousand year theorem, because there will be no earth for the presently reigning Lord to stand upon. This world will be consumed in heat when the Lord returns. Understand the words of God stated in 2 Peter 3:10, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” Judgment will be final when the Savior returns (Matthew 25:31-33).
