Truth Bible Camp is headed our way! It is set to take place June 12-16 of this year, and the youth in this area and other areas are already talking about it. The anticipation continues to build for this great camp. This camp is a special time of training for our youth as those of the ages of 12 through 18 will be involved in the full-time camp, which lasts the duration of the camp, and others of the ages of 9 through 11 will be involved in the day camp, which will begin on June 13 and go through June 16. This is one of the highlights of the year for Tennessee Bible College. It is also one of the highlights of the year for myself and everyone associated with it.
It has been my blessing to direct the Day Camp for over ten years and in view of this, I want to share with you particularly in this article about the Day Camp side of things. Let me begin by saying this, our focus in this Camp is on the Book as young people will spend around 20 HOURS IN THE WORD. This is how much time is spent in a study and meditation upon the Word of God in our Day Camp. Considering that the Holy Bible equips us for every good work and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness that we may be complete, then it is surely understood why this Book in which we find all things that pertain unto life and godliness is the focus of this camp (II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:3). The Bible is the main curriculum. All instruction is from this Book, not from any creeds or traditions of men.
Where else in our area on June 13-16 will you find students being involved in this much study of God’s Word? Friends, I want to encourage you to enroll your children in this Camp. Our theme this year is “Read the Next Verse.” II Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” We will be looking at how to rightly divide the word of Truth. We will focus on topics involving the All Powerful God, the all authoritative Word of God, and how that we should submit to God’s Word. We will focus on topics involving correctly interpreting the Word of God, and looking at the context.
Now that you know what the Camp’s focus is, you may want to know what a typical day in the life of a day camper is like? Let me explain. Our young people come to us full of energy each morning, and we meet that energy with an action-packed day. They are served breakfast, and then enjoy a Morning Devotional. There are outside activities. They have at least four Bible classes each day. Before lunch, we have Bible Class, we serve them lunch, and then after lunch, there will be another Bible Class, followed by one later in the evening and another at the end of the day. We have outside games with them, and as we go toward the afternoon, arts and crafts time ensues. There is a time for singing and snacks, along with indoor activities. Sports time rounds out the evening along with movie time before supper. The day ends with a Vacation Bible School Class at the Northeast church of Christ. Following this, our Day Campers go home and come back bright and early the next day. While the schedule may change slightly year to year, this gives you an idea of a typical Day Camper Day.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 says, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” This is the big picture of life. We focus on the big picture of life at the Truth Bible Camp. Parents, if you have a son or daughter in the age range of 9 to 11, I highly encourage you to have them take part in this exciting camp. Grandparents, if you have a grandson or granddaughter in the age range of 9 to 11, encourage them to be a part of this fun-filled Camp. Trust me, you will not regret it. In fact, many of our young people choose as they get older to join the full-time Camp for ages 12 to 18.
Parents, as it is with concrete, so it is with our children. It is easier to get a good finish on concrete if we work on it before it properly hardens. Likewise, it is much easier to give special attention to our young while they have tender and open hearts to the Word than to wait about teaching them and let them go off into a life of sin by which they are hardened. There are so many things that we could choose for our children to be involved in this summer, but this is one that allows for 20 or more hours in a study of God’s Word. This is a venue where your child can grow closer to God in an atmosphere surrounded by Christian teachers and Christian counselors. This is a place where your child can be around fellow youth who want to know more about our Lord and with whom they can make good friendships that will last a lifetime. It is a time of making memories that will last forever.
