No, you cannot be just anything you want. A man cannot be a woman. A giant cannot be a midget. Brown skin cannot be black or white. Right cannot be wrong. And everyone cannot be right. Today diversity is touted as though it were the most noble of all goals. Often, those who cry loudest for it stop well short of allowing their narrow definition of diversity to include anything related to the Bible or those who believe what it says. Have you wondered why? The Bible teaches convictions at odds with a mentality that pretends to welcome all comers and sanction all beliefs. The Bible makes singular claims, with a message that commands wholehearted adherence. The Bible is highly critical of sin. Much of what parades in public today is sin. No wonder many want to style themselves diversity supporters, whereas they are anything but. Then again, the gospel of Christ was never about creating or endorsing diversity of belief. It was about offering God’s truth—objective, unchanging, politically-unaffected truth—to everyone. Not enough gets said about the fact that God’s grace is the greatest teacher.
“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age”
(Titus 2:11-12, ESV).
Those who want God’s truth embrace it and obey it.
“For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:27-28).
Diversity in the Lord’s church consists in various traits and abilities of those people who are in it. But, genuine Christians believe the same gospel, worship the same Lord, have the same objective, oppose the same sins.
“I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment” (1 Corinthians 1:10).
