Life Is What We Make It

From the Preacher’s Viewpoint

Editor’s Note: From the Preacher’s Viewpoint was a recurring column written by Tennessee Bible College founder Malcolm L. Hill for the weekly bulletin of the Northeast church of Christ in Cookeville, Tennessee, where he preached for many years. The congregation has long shared its campus with Tennessee Bible College, and these timeless reflections continue to encourage Christians today.

To a measurable degree, life is what we make of it. The Bible gives us direction as we live from day to day. Those who let God direct them in life will never be sad they did so. God’s directions for us to live by are found in the Bible and the Bible only. Let us look at some of them.

If one would be happy in life, he must learn to be humble which means he must understand the limits of his ability (Matt. 5:3).

God will bless the person that has deep feelings about the well-being of others (Matt. 5:4).

To stay out of trouble one must learn to control himself (Matt. 5:5).

If we would know Christ and the way of this life, we must be hungry and thirsty for truth (Matt. 5:6).

If we want others to understand us during life, then we must try to understand the other fellow when he is faced with problems (Matt. 5:7).

All of us must understand that we are led wrong when we let our heart run loose and without limits (Matt. 5:8).

A person who sincerely seeks peace based on legitimate grounds is pleasing to God (Matt. 5:9).

All of us must understand that even good people must take abuse and ill treatment. Jesus did this (Matt. 5:10-12).

To be a real person all of us must learn to take wrong and never give up living the good life (Matt. 5:11-12).

Think on these things.
