Mission Efforts in Peru: Planting and Watering the Seed

This summer, Tennessee Bible College students Trent Nivens, Jordan Danner, and Brad Burkett traveled to Huancayo, Peru, as part of their course The Indigenous Church. Sponsored by the West End Church of Christ, the team joined missionaries Daniel and Audrey Goshorn in their work of preaching and teaching in the Andes Mountains.

During the July 21–29 campaign, the students helped conduct a Bible conference, participated in studies with Quechua natives and local Peruvians, and rejoiced in two baptisms. Brother Brad Burkett reflected, “Preaching the Word was at the forefront of our minds… our time there was deeply meaningful, and we pray the gospel seed planted will continue to bear fruit for years to come.”

For each student, the trip was a powerful reminder of the Lord’s command:

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to fulfill Christ’s command—not only in my own community, but now also in the country of Peru.” — Trent Nivens

“The chance to obey the Lord’s command to take the gospel into all the world was both exhilarating and humbling.” — Jordan Danner

The work in Huancayo is still young, but growing. The Goshorns report a consistent group of believers meeting each Lord’s Day, ongoing weekly Bible studies, and efforts to train men to preach and lead. Visitors like the TBC students bring encouragement, new energy, and living proof of Christian partnership across borders. As Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:18–20, the gospel continues to go forth in Peru. Seeds have been planted, and through the Lord’s blessing, they will grow into lasting fruit for His kingdom.

As the Fall Quarter at TBC begins September 8, students are preparing once again for study, service, and opportunities to put faith into action. The recent mission in Peru is a reminder that the classroom is only the beginning—the real work is in taking the gospel to the world. We invite you to join us this fall and be part of preparing the next generation of gospel workers.
