David Hill: Welcome to A Month in Minutes, where every message from the month meets in one place.
One minute. One message. One gospel.
Malcolm Hill: Sometimes people will say to me, “Why are you a member of the Church of Christ?” And I’m very happy when they ask me that question. I am a member of the Church of Christ because the Church of Christ started at the right place [Isaiah 2:1–4]. The Bible says that the house of the Lord would begin at Jerusalem. The birthplace of the New Testament church was to be in Jerusalem. Now read it for yourself, Isaiah 2:1–4. Then in Acts chapter 2, we read of the day of Pentecost, and then in Acts 2 and verse 47, we find that the church was started there at Jerusalem and that people were added thereunto.
I’m a member of the Church of Christ because it has the right birthplace. Any other place other than Jerusalem, wrong place, wrong church. I’m Malcolm Hill.
David Hill: Ever thought about it, the profession God chose to save the world? Hi, David Hill. Got a minute? When God set out to save the world, He didn’t send a lawyer. He didn’t send an entertainer. He didn’t send a coach, a doctor, or an events coordinator, not a contractor. He sent a preacher of the gospel. That’s what Jesus said His profession was [Luke 4:18]. A master teacher who lived and taught in simplicity the saving message of God. Other than regarding the temple of old in Jerusalem, Jesus never said a word about a church building.
He simply taught the saving message of the gospel. Over 2,000 years, the message has gotten very complicated, hasn’t it? God didn’t do that. Man did. The truth is simple, and you can know it. Jesus said that [John 8:32]. It’s time to get back to the basics. Don’t you think? That’s the gospel.
“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
We could stop right there. Hi, got a minute? The truth is synonymous with God’s word. His word is the truth [John 17:17], and the truth is His word. It’s the standard, the truth—factually right and cannot be wrong. Truth is not an opinion. It’s been observed that opinions are like noses. Everybody’s got one. Yet some seem to confuse this matter of truth and opinion.
Just because you think it, desire it, or love it doesn’t make it true. You see, God’s word is not to be played around with; it’s eternal in significance, but some don’t like it. Yeah, I realize that it’s been that way throughout history, but it’s the word—God’s word—that will judge you in the last day [John 12:48].
So it’s important to get it right. Want the truth? Seek it in God’s word. Buy it and sell it not [Proverbs 23:23]. That’s the gospel.
