David Hill: There’s a war going on in the Middle East, and I know you’re concerned about our troops, as I am. Hi, David Hill with One Gospel Minute. With this war going on and with all the action that’s going on in the Middle East, I have people coming to me and saying, “Are you looking for Jesus?” And they’re thinking that it’s time for Him to return, and they’re looking for Him to come and set up a kingdom in Jerusalem.

Jesus set His kingdom up 2,000 years ago. In Matthew 16:18–19, He said, “Upon this rock I’ll build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it, and I’ll give unto you the keys to the kingdom. Whatsoever shall be bound on earth shall be bound in heaven.” That was then, and He was adding to the kingdom just a short time after that (Acts 2:47).

They were being translated into the kingdom when? 2,000 years ago (Colossians 1:13). The end of time is coming. The Lord promises that. He’s coming one time. Just as the promise was in Acts 1, the statement is made that the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night (2 Peter 3:10). Then, going through verse 12, it says that at that time He’ll come and all that is in the earth will be burned up.

Yes, I’m looking for Jesus. And as the Revelation writer said, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” But He is not coming back to rule and reign on an earthly throne. Those days are done. He’s coming back to claim His own and to take us to live with Him eternally in heaven. That’s the Gospel.
