David Hill: Over 50 years, a lot of friends have been made. Hi, David Hill with One Gospel Minute. Seventeen years ago this month, August, our friends and Grand Ole Opry stars Dailey and Vincent completed the album _Singing From the Heart_ as a gift to TBC founding President Malcolm Hill. One of his cherished hymns, “The Old Rugged Cross,” is on it with his recitation. This old hymn, written in 1912 by George Bernard, captures the essence of the rugged cross of Calvary. It was a rough-cut, small tree, just tall enough to raise one above the ground—much smaller than often depicted today, but in reality, larger than the world because of the One who bled and died there for you and for me. Jesus Christ bridged the gap of sinful separation between man and God with His atoning blood at Calvary (Hebrews 9:22). Do you cherish the old rugged cross? It’s revealed in obedient faith (Hebrews 11:6). How thankful we all should be for the Savior at Calvary. Follow Him, love Him, and live with Him eternally (Revelation 3:21).
Malcolm Hill: Our Lord was near death when He gave this cry: ““Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani? My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?” Think of the tremendous love and devotion that our Lord had in suffering such shame and such agony as He was on that old rugged cross.
