Faith Under Fire
Persecution has always been part of the Christian faith. Paul reminded Timothy, “All who would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (II Tim. 3:12). Telling the truth of the gospel exposes error and strengthens discipleship, but it also comes with a cost. Are you prepared to stand for truth when your faith is under fire? The peace that passes understanding comes only from following Christ, and even in persecution and tribulation there is glory for those who remain faithful to Him.

David Hill: “All who would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (II Timothy 3:12).
Hi, David Hill—got a minute?
The apostle of Christ who suffered most gave this advice to a young preacher, Timothy—perhaps second only to Christ in suffering. You can read about his suffering in II Corinthians chapter 11. Paul warned all Christians of the price of faith.
As a Christian, you will be tested by persecution. Are you ready? A lot of folks are moved when talking about the things going on around us, and innocent lives being taken simply for appealing for freedom of discussion. The Bible says, “Debate your cause with your neighbor” to come to an understanding of truth (Proverbs 25:9). Open, honest discussion doesn’t harm truth—never has—but often embarrasses error and false doctrine.
Telling the truth has a cost, but have you considered that telling what is false carries a cost as well, both in this life and in the life to come (Revelation 21:8)? “Buy the truth, and sell it not” (Proverbs 23:23). Through it, you’ll receive instruction and understanding. Oh yes, you’ll suffer some persecution for it. Just remember, the peace that passes all understanding comes from following Christ—following the truth.
The good news? Suffering is in your future if you follow Christ. The apostle learned to glory in tribulation (Romans 5:3–5). That’s the gospel.
