The Mission of the Church
After last week’s call to wake up and be renewed at RENEW 2026, this episode turns to the purpose behind that renewal. In this Throwback Thursday edition of One Gospel Minute, we revisit an archival message from the original radio program that began this work, featuring the late Malcolm Hill, founder of Tennessee Bible College. Hill defines the work God gave the church—to carry the saving gospel to the world—and calls Christians to understand why they are what they are.

Malcolm Hill: I’m a member of the Church of Christ because she knows the work that she is to do. Now, there are some churches of Christ that have left the Bible, and in leaving the Bible, they have left the work. They don’t understand. They do not understand the mission that God has for the church. And so they have gimmicks, and they have pie suppers. And there are those that have raffles, and they’ll have bingo, and they just carry on a bunch of nonsense. But the work of the church is to carry the gospel to the world (Matthew 28:19; Acts 8:4). I’m a member of the Church of Christ because her mission is to get the saving gospel to the entire world. What are you, and why are you what you are? I’m Malcolm Hill.
