The Right Birthplace

The New Testament church did not begin just anywhere—it began exactly where God said it would. In this episode, Malcolm Hill points us back to Isaiah’s prophecy and its fulfillment in Acts 2, showing that the church established in Jerusalem is the church we read about in the Bible. If we want the right church, we must begin in the right place.
This throwback episode is a tribute to Malcolm Hill, founder of Tennessee Bible College and the original voice of One Gospel Minute. Though he has passed on, his faithful preaching continues to inspire and remind us to follow the pattern found in Scripture.

Malcolm Hill: Sometimes people will say to me, “Why are you a member of the Church of Christ?” And I’m very happy when they ask me that question. I am a member of the Church of Christ because the Church of Christ started at the right place (Isaiah 2:1-4). The Bible says that the house of the Lord would begin at Jerusalem.

The birthplace of the New Testament church was to be in Jerusalem. Now read it for yourself (Isaiah 2:1-4). Then in Acts chapter 2, we read of the day of Pentecost, and then in Acts 2 and verse 47, we find that the church was started there at Jerusalem and that people were added thereunto.

I’m a member of the Church of Christ because it has the right birthplace. Any other place other than Jerusalem—wrong place, wrong church. I’m Malcolm Hill.
