In honor of Tennessee Bible College’s Founder’s Day, One Gospel Minute presents a special throwback episode from the original radio broadcast of TBC founder Malcolm L. Hill. In this timeless message, Malcolm reflects on the meaning of the word Christian—where it appears in Scripture, how Christians are made, and what it truly means to follow Christ.

As we remember the vision and faith of Tennessee Bible College’s founder, this episode reminds us that being a Christian is more than a name—it is a life of faithful obedience to Jesus Christ.

Malcolm Hill: You know the word Christian is a beautiful, beautiful name. It’s a beautiful statement when you say a fellow is a Christian. The word Christian is mentioned three times in the Bible. In Acts chapter 11, verse 26, is the first place where they were called Christians at Antioch. And then Paul, preaching to a wicked king, said to him some things, and then the king said, “Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.” That’s the way you make Christians. You persuade Christians. You can’t hold a gun to their head and make them Christians. You’ve got to persuade them from the heart. In I Peter 4:16, the Bible says, “If any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but glorify God in this name.”

Who is a Christian? Have you ever stopped to think about it? A lot of people say they are Christians, but that doesn’t mean that they are. A person is a Christian who follows Jesus Christ in everything he possibly can, to the best of his ability. Are you a Christian?

I’m Malcolm Hill. This has been One Gospel Minute from the churches of Christ in your area, where you are always welcome.
