The path to becoming a saint involves no miracles, prayers to Mary, or official beatifications. True sainthood comes from following Jesus Christ, as the Apostle Paul explained to the Ephesians (Ephesians 1:1). Believers become saints through faith, obedience to the Gospel, and baptism—not through any earthly decrees. If you’ve obeyed the Gospel, you are a saint.

David Hill: How many miracles does one have to be a part of to be a saint? Hi, David Hill with One Gospel Minute. The answer? None. How many prayers to Mary? None. Well, if the church Papa decrees one a saint? Beatification means absolutely nothing. One doesn’t have to be beatified; rather, one must be obedient. When the Apostle Paul wrote to the saints at Ephesus (Ephesians 1:1), he wasn’t writing to dead people but to Christians who were very much alive. A saint is not made by earthly decree but rather by heavenly entry by Jesus Christ. When one is of age, has ability to believe, and obeys the Gospel—putting Christ on in water baptism (Galatians 3:27)—Christ makes that baptized believer a saint, adding them to His church (Acts 2:47). Baptism isn’t for babies or unbelievers. Only saints are in His church, and saints are only made by Jesus Christ Himself. Have you obeyed the Gospel? If you have, then you’re a saint. That’s the Gospel. Thank you for listening to One Gospel Minute. Stay in touch with our podcast on our website and on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever fine podcasts are distributed.
