First they told us which restrooms to use. Now they’re telling us the words we ought to use. Transgender people say they are offended if you call them he or she, and workplaces and schools are trying to make them happy. They insist on using words like ze, hir, and xem and pressure students and workers to comply. What should Christians do in these situations? Resist. Here is why.
- God created male and female. “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Gen. 1:27). God had the right to create us as He did. What right do we have to challenge the Creator?
- Man is forbidden to change the natural order of male and female. Some were doing this in New Testament times. Paul said that “even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due” (Rom. 1:26-27).
- Cross dressing is forbidden in the Bible. God warned, “A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God” (Deut. 22:5). It didn’t matter if someone claimed to be something other that his or her biological sex. God still referred to the person as “a woman” or “a man.” If it is wrong to wear the clothes of the opposite sex, then it is wrong to wear the name of the opposite sex.
- Gender is built into the original languages of the Bible. Greek nouns, adjectives, participles and even pronouns are either masculine, feminine or neuter. Hebrew nouns also are masculine or feminine.
- The Bible would have to be rewritten before we could accommodate this perversion. But that is what some Bible translations began to do over thirty years ago. In 1990 the New Revised Standard Version complained about “the danger of linguistic sexism arising from the inherent bias of the English language towards the masculine gender.” In 1995 Oxford University released “The New Testament and Psalms: An Inclusive Version” which referred to God as “Father-Mother.” God pronounced a curse on those who change His Word (Deut. 4:2; Rev. 22:18-19).
- Christians are to reprove the world, not conform to it. “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret” (Eph. 5:11-12). “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Rom. 12:2). These verses are clear enough.
- This trend is the result of decades of radical ideologies. In 1948 the notorious Kinsey Report alleged that 10% of the male population were homosexual. That was a lie. One of the goals of the Communist Party uncovered by FBI agent Cleon Skousen which was entered in the Congressional Record in 1963 was to “present homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity as normal, natural, healthy.” In 1972 the Equal Rights Amendment promised equal treatment for women and men. It was a back door to get homosexuality into the public sphere. The next year the Yale Law Journal argued that the legislation contained in the ERA bill would allow for homosexual marriages. That concession was made in 2015 and things have only grown worse.
- These people will not stop with these demands. The story of Lot should teach us that. When homosexuals demanded that the two angels be given to them, Lot told them not to do this wicked thing and shamefully offered his daughters to them (Gen. 19:8). This infuriated them. They accused him of judging them—sound familiar?—and tried to break into his house (Gen. 19:9). There is no limit to what these people will do or demand.
- What about pedophiles? Are we to soften our language to keep from offending them? Will businesses and schools insist on calling them “minor attracted persons” instead of “child molesters”?
- From the viewpoint of some in the government, this movement is not about equality and civil rights. It is about control. They don’t care about sexual minorities or any minority. They merely want to divide, conquer and control. All this alleged concern to avoid offending people is like mask and social distancing mandates during COVID. It is about power, pure and simple.
A wealthy European almost a century ago said if a group has the power to print money, then it doesn’t matter who makes the laws. The same thing has been said about music and customs in society. In regard to neopronouns, if we allow these people to define words, then everything else will fall.
Thank God His Word will stand forever and when Jesus comes again men and women will still be getting married (Matt. 24:35, 38-39).
