Deuteronomy 6:4-9 says, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”
Parents have a tremendous responsibility to train up children in the way that they should go (Proverbs 22:6). Ephesians 6:4 says, “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Parents should do all within their abilities to raise up children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. A great way to do this is to teach children each day at home. Also, bringing children to the services of the church is especially important in teaching children the way in which they should go (Hebrews 10:25). Bible classes provide opportunities to help children know what God expects of mankind.
It is the responsibility of the church to be the pillar and the ground of the truth (I Timothy 3:15). The church’s mission is to make known the wisdom of God (Ephesians 3:10). It is with this in mind that many congregations of the church of Christ do all that we can through our worship services, Bible classes, door-knocking programs, and other events to spread the Good News of Christ. As Spring is now here, and summer soon will be, if the Lord wills, Vacation Bible Schools will be going on, also, around us. V. B. S. is one avenue whereby we seek to make known the wisdom of God to our youth with a special emphasis, but also unto all ages, because adults need to know God’s Word, too. We never get too old to stop growing in the knowledge of Christ. II Peter 3:18 says, “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” Vacation Bible School is a time during the “Summer Break” in which students are out of school to come together for a time of special study and devotion for God. Let us not neglect the V. B. S.
II Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Friends, let us make sure that we are meditating upon God’s Word day and night (Psalm 1). If we want to be like a tree, planted by the rivers of water, whose leaf does not wither, and whatever he does prospers, then we must meditate upon God’s Word day and night. As parents, if we want our children to be strong like this, let us make sure that we utilize our many opportunities to instruct them. Friends, let us delight in the law of the Lord!
