“O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory,” and so begins the 108th Psalm.  I would hope that as Christians we could all say that our heart is fixed on the Lord.  After all, we owe our very existence to Him.

What is it that we possess that originated with us?  Nothing.  Everything we have originated with God.  The food we have came from Him.  The breath that we breathe comes from Him.  The water that we drink originated with Him.  The clothes we have, they are all from Him, too.  As it relates to our shelter, all of that came from God, too.  Our family came from Him.  Our friends are from Him.  The land that we own is from Him, too.  Everything is from Him, and everyone is from Him.

Acts 17:25 says, about God, “Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things.”  We owe our all to Him.  He loved us so much that He even sent His Son to die for us for it took the Blood of the Perfect, Sinless, Accountable Son of God, to take away our sins through obedience (Ephesians 1:7).  Hebrews 5:9 says that Christ is, “the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;”.  Our Heavenly Father also gave us the Bible, which equips us for every good work and contains all that we need to know in order to go to Heaven (II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:3).  Our God even gave us the church, purchasing the church with the blood of Christ (Acts 20:28).  Within the church, salvation is found (Acts 2:47).  Truly, then our God is worthy of our Praise and Worship.  Psalm 18:3 says, “I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.”  He is Worthy of our obedience.  He is Worthy to have our hearts fixed upon Him.

Let us then do as the Psalmist in Psalm 108 says that he has done and fix our hearts upon God.  In order to do this we must do as Psalm 112:7 says.  This verse says, “He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. “  We should sing to our God (Psalm 108:3).  We should praise Him (Psalm 108:1, 3).  We should trust in our God to deliver us and trust in Him to give us victory (Psalm 108:13).  Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”  Our focus in this life must be on the Eternal Heaven, not on this temporary Earth.  Fix your heart on the Lord!
