Heaven is a destiny desired by many, hinging on a message most are unwilling to seek, and effort that few want to exert. Yet, God will give it to one who wants it enough to obey the gospel. How do you get there? The answer is not found in men’s opinions, or in doctrines of denominations. Creeds, councils and catechisms do not concern us. Instead, we must go to the source and repeat the question posed by Paul in Romans 4:3, “For what saith the Scripture?” The Bible’s is the only answer that matters. It is the only answer that is right. It is the only answer worthy of acceptance. When we locate what Scripture says, we have found God’s answer, and that should be enough to settle any question with clarity and finality. It may be the Bible’s answer is different than what you have been taught. If so, you have a choice. You can ignore the Bible answer and press on, or try to twist the Bible to fit what you already think (but see the danger of that in 2 Peter 3:16). Or, you can change your mind and mold yourself and your beliefs to what the Bible teaches. We should all have the honesty to admit the Bible is true, even if it differs from what we were taught. How familiar are you with the New Testament? How well do you know the words of the Savior? After all, those words will face us at the Judgment (John 12:48). Jesus, “though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became unto all them that obey him the author of eternal salvation” (Hebrews 5:8-9).
